Friday morning of our first week was the usual make ourselves wake up without an alarm clock after going to bed after midnight. We have never missed a morning!!! Packing our workbooks in my shoulder bag as we prepared to leave for school, I leaned over to pick up the bag from the bed and slowly but completely, my back gave way and I fell onto the bed. Stunned, and disbelieving, I attempted to get up several times without success and began to laugh hysterically at the picture of myself sprawled across the bed. But my back was gone. After walking down 5 flights of stairs because the elevator was out of order, I realized I could not go to school, I carefully climbed back up 5 flights of stairs and went back to bed.
When Alan arrived back from school in the pm, he told me the teachers at the school all said what to get. We found a pharmacy, showed them the paper from the school (no prescriptions are needed), purchased it, then realized it was ampules of something and in my limited Spanish I had to make them understand that I needed to have someone give me an injection. I was taken to a very narrow room where the pharmacy person produced a 2 inch needle, broke off the top of the ampule, sucked out the liquid into the syringe and sank it deep into my right rear cheek. I was really hoping I was doing the right thing. Amazingly by the next morning I was much better and I had to have injections 4 times more. I don’t know if it wears off, but my back has been fine since. Just a little human interest blurb for myself and our medically challenged friends! I bet they don’t let you have this in the states.

And a Morro Bayan HAPPY NEW YEAR back to you two!!! :-) :-)
ReplyDeleteGreat to hear the ampules worked--my chiropractor has never supplied such quick-working drugs for my back. Whewwww. I know Alan has been in training for those alcohol-filled nights and mornings; how is Chris managing? And don't tell me the fun part is studying.
Back to the students on Monday. Been birding Estero Bluffs, north of Cayucos, so I can say some intelligent bird-things when I lead a group there on Jan. 17. Christmas lights & decorations went into boxes today. Our life surely doesn't have your interesting variety. Keep the blog alive, and remember, life will NOT be so rerwarding once you're, again, nestled in Santa Margarita. Love ya, Rick & Chriss
monday, january something. the 5th i think.
ReplyDeletegood thing i have connections with sandy, else i would never have found out about this great means of sharing your adventure vicariously.
it sounds like you are having a lot more fun than i am with my ongoing contractor blues. i've been researching the industry standards for stucco, got a lot of help from the portland cement organization. it turns out the ASTM addresses the issues quite clearly, and no, the sub did not do it to industry standards, and the best fix is not to remove it and re-do it, and though i am not too pleased with what kind of look the best fix is, it is a relief to have clear standards, so that the contractor cannot make it into a personal issue, or try to sell me on the sub's qualificsations, but who ever thought i would be the one cheering for the astm!
so fun to read about yoru adventures! i really admire your courage and spirit of adventure. just try to get me to agree to an injection of an unknown substance by an unknown person, using ?which needle? where? get out a town!!!
glad you're having such a fine time
much love penel
